The very first day in "Corporation Finance" class, the professor told us that the sole, most
important job of management of a publicly traded corporation is ... to maximize the share
price of the corporation. Everything else one can think of is secondary or redundant or
extraneous. If you do things to make the share price go up, you are doing the right thing.


So AMZN is a better company than QCOM? I think that the statement above is valid only over a long term scenario. Look at RPM for example. Who will make more money in the next twenty years, owners of AMZN or owners of QCOM?
