I don't really see what this argument is about or maybe I don't understand what the meaning of collective is. I will readily admit that I haven't the time to read all the posts and also that I am terrible in history, politics, and philosophy so anything I say is without much foundation. (Educate me, don't insult me.) But hasn't man always found it more beneficial to live collectively? His nature seems to push him in that direction. Of course it's the individual who creates, but the collective who enables the dream to become a larger reality. They seem to be very necessary to each other- a symbiotic relationship. It's only when the balance swings too far in either direction--when the individual is forced to sacrifice his rights completely to the collective, give up his individuality, or the collective needs are completely ignored or considered non-existent, that there is conflict. As usual, it seems to be the extreme positions taken that lead to conflict. And old Ayn was nothing if not extreme.
