Apple may move to Intel based chips because: 1. IBM and Motorola have basically pulled the plug on the Power PC and Apple cannot go it alone. 2. Perhaps most importantly, NEXT only runs on INTEL based microprocessors at this time. About six months ago Gates stated in public that Microsoft was considering stopping future development of software for Apple as the market share was too small. Apple complained to the Justice Department, since MSFT sells more software for the MAC than any other company. Perhaps feeling are being smoothed over at this time. In any case, the analyst have been out to lunch for six months and are just beginning to recognize the impact of these issues and what it will mean to the bottom line of both INTEL and MSFT and probably to the long term viability of Apple.
