Zeev: I heard back from my brother. He is familiar with their advertisements in programmer's journals. He has never made a purchase from them (but he writes software rather than buying it... first kid on the block with a slide rule... you know the drill...) but indicated that the market for programmers buying software is rapidly growing. He believes that NT will quickly become the standard OS with the release of the next version. This will cause an even greater explosion in the programmers market. Of course, successful execution is critical. Programmers are bright and won't tolerate being jerked around on a short chain. My brother checked the web page and observed that it was down... I must say, he didn't sound impressed by this fact. It would seem to me that all web pages need intermittent tweaking. There must be a way to upgrade without pulling the site offline. It's always of some concern when a commercial web site is down, even temporarily. At the same time, their numbers speak loudly.

Regarding electronic download vs. FEDEX/UPS shipping, I for one like to have a CD in my possession after having spent a large sum of money to purchase some binary code. After all, if you're going to pay money for your 0's and 1's, it's nice to have something tangible to look at <ggg>! I suspect that hard copies of software will be shipped on CD's for several years to come, even if cable modem fixes the problem of download time. Just my thoughts as a consumer of software.

It will be interesting to see where PROG heads this week.
