MMV, this plays into my long held argument that AG was a maroon to say he would never raise margin rates. If he wants to stimulate the real economy while cooling speculative fever, he simply raises margin rates until the speculators cry "uncle."

However, much of this assumes that AG is not really behind the ever rising market as a political tool to help his boss, Slick Willie. I have noted that he always says "hands off" the market at tops, but does whatever he can to support it when it has a downtick. That is a guy who only cares about the speculative bubble and hopes that bubble will carry the real economy. It has for awhile, but the impact is definitely winding down and it can't last foreever.
