kzap,
the publishers of pcnovice and smart computing have compiled an excellent softbound computing dictionary. it costs $9.95, has 288 pages, and is about as thick as an average magazine.
it's called the illustrated book of terms and technologies. to my knowledge, you could go right out to a bookstore and buy it today. i have the winter 98 edition.
you'll love this publication. it has everything. every acronym you can imagine is there (FAT=file allocation table, SCSI=small computer system interface, OS=operating system, etc.). PPP, SDRAM, storage media, packets, gigabyte, gigaflop (true!), FDISK, DIMM, and on and on and on. the illustrations are excellent, and the definitions are precise. a handy little publication to have sitting next to your puter. :)
good luck! mark |
