FT, That is why the concept of basic individual rights was such a quantum leap forward for all Mankind. It set the individual above the group. Wrong. The concept of individual rights delineated areas in which individual rights took precedence and areas where the group takes precedence. This interface is continually being redefined by a political process. The political process is defined by individuals acting in groups. Alone, you are an inconsiderate loudmouth on the Internet, remarkable principally for a rich and varied fantasy life. With a dozen or a hundred or a million like-minded people, you might actually succeed in influencing policy. But that would require that you work effectively as part of a group, subordinating your ego to the group goal of promoting greater respect for individual rights... A fascinating contradiction, no? You can only get what you want by becoming part of what you don't believe exists. Steve
