Oh, Jeff-- It's all absurd. Even people who have a horror of the possibly irrelevant would probably end up wasting yet more time navigating the threads. And, as noted earlier, there's no reason to think that those who really have nothing to say are aware of the fact. What's next: rate posts as "brilliant", "adequate", and "stupid"? Maybe I'll suggest it to Katz. "Serious" content doesn't necessarily make a thing worth reading. Nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head: you don't want to read a post, don't read it. There may have been more frustration of late due to problems with SI's slowness in recent weeks. This seems to be fixed, at least for now, and should help. But the SITMs will never be satisfied.
