VoIP is essentially a loss leader. Paper thin margins and unpredictable overhead. It is a common mistake to assume that is the thrust of the merger. You believe like some ATT execs that ATT must cling to their minimal profit past. I believe that ATT has seen the light and will move towards added value services. No doubt they are still bogged down by voice, but you may see T undergo a major transformation relative to this perception. Voice is just an adjunct to broadband, just another stream that is low bandwidth. In the future no telco will make money on that kind of transfer. They will carry it for awhile for backward compatibility.
