To settle the debate and start a new one:

Re: k7 at 800 Mhz.

Just because something runs at that speed does NOT mean that is ready to ship production at that speed.

My expectation is that these will ship by year end.

Look for 600Mhz in Q2 and 700-900Mhz by year end.

If you trust their sources, one look at Ace's Hardware (http://www.aceshardware.com/articles/x86/cpu99.html)
will put this to rest.

I've read about the emerging technology in 1999, and I am well aware of how much the chip battle is about to heat up. I found AMD's plans to be most ambitious and am very excited about the K7. I think AMD stands a reasonable chance of biting a nice meaty hunk out of the market if what I have heard about the various technologies comes to fruition as expected. As such, I am considering investing a piece of my portfolio into AMD.

What I'm interested in knowing is why should I (or shouldn't I) buy this stock? I'm assuming the company has an optimistic outlook for the future or they wouldn't be charging full-balls into an aggressive head-to-head with Intel on the high end. But realistically, what can I expect from them? You long-time investors (if there are any of you out there) where do you expect this stock to be in a year and why? Are you confident in AMD's management? You who have sold recently, why did you get rid of the stock? I'd like to gather as much information and opinion as possible before I make my move, which will happen sometime in the next month if it happens at all, so thank you in advance.

On a side note, it's hard to keep up with this discussion since it seems to get around 100 messages a day, which is WAY more than I have time to wade through!
