Of course there are many different ways to take a position for or against a stock. Also, one can also use a straddle which simply bets the stock price will not stay the same.

Underlying TA are the fundamentals of the market and the company.
My issues are at their root company and market fundamentals.
If EP warned of a shortfall in CPQ stock tomorrow the TA would change very rapidly. So TA is ultimately an effect of the fudamentals.
In the short run however, it can also be the cause of a run up in stock price.

We will see what the truth is soon.
