Sure, Andrew. I will elaborate on At Home problems. The City Council of Seattle is logging a record number of complaints about ATHM's cable problems. And they are all over the map.

The people from ATHM that installed my cable modem were just not on top of things. The first set of people had no luck getting their drivers working. The second set of people who came out the next day finally did after 5 more hours.

I have had service for 2 months. Again, I admit that downloads are much faster but where the cable modem does NOT help is in logging onto a site faster or speeding things up when there is traffic. I had several days last week where SI waits were interminable...I had to switch over to my ISP and dial up, which I still keep as backup.

At Home thought that I was dropping packets and that I should re-install the software, but then they had me run a program that sends out a code to their server (i.e pings it) and they see how long it takes to bounce back. It was fine, so their explanation was that someone upline from me must be down and that was slowing down my machine. Huh? I am in a loop with others that can mess me up getting out of thier proxy server? Huh?

I don't know the technicals of it all...just not always happy with what is going on. They seem pretty inefficient. Anyway, with USWest and Pairgain and others hot on their tail , they better improve things fast.
