Croc, Paddled last weekend along a lovely stretch of coast, old-growth rainforest running right down to the ocean. Rare sight these days; oddly due to the former presence here of the US Navy, which had a good bit of forest inside the base and protected it. Nice way to get up close to jungle without having to prowl around in it (also fun, but wearing). It looks like the kind of place where there ought to have been Crocodiles; probably there were once, but no more. Guess the Navy wasn't that beneficient, though their absence probably makes for better snorkeling. Civilization (or what passes for it in these parts) is never really very far away, but there are a few secluded coves where you can pull in and see nothing but forest on one side and ocean on the other. Which is nice. Steve
