Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority Awards Intergraph $26.4 Million Contract for Integrated Resource Management System HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 1999-- Intergraph Selected to Provide End-to-End Automation Solution for Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority
Intergraph Corporation (Nasdaq/NMS:INGR) announced today that it has been awarded a $26.4 million contract by Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) to provide an integrated resource management system. This integrated solution will provide PREPA with powerful information tools in order to deal with increasingly complex engineering and administration issues, enabling PREPA to map and manage electric transmission and distribution lines more effectively, while streamlining work order management and dispatch requirements. The system includes Intergraph software based on Microsoft Windows NT for geographic information system (GIS), computer-aided dispatch/outage management as well as Intergraph Computer Systems' workstations and servers. The contract also provides for a Severn Trent Systems work management system and field inventory by ASI Cartotech, which involves verifying and collecting information on all facilities in the field. With the heavy damage to PREPA's electric network from recent hurricanes Hugo and Georges, the utility realized that recovery would have been much faster with an automated system in place, and power could have been restored more quickly. Commitment to customer service was the driving force behind PREPA's decision to implement a system of this magnitude.
According to Eng. Miguel A. Cordero, PREPA Executive Director, "This integrated system will enable us to provide a better and faster service to our customers. The addition of the spatial component to the system will provide an accurate location of our facilities and customers, and how they are interrelated. This information will allow us to manage our facilities more efficiently reducing outage time and operation and maintenance costs, while improving customer service."
When management teams at PREPA evaluated options available for improving outage response, they realized a major re-engineering effort was required. After a head-to-head evaluation of the world's major GIS, work management and outage management vendors, the re-engineering effort brought PREPA to Intergraph and its strategic partners for a fully integrated software solution.
Dr. Roger Coupland, President of Intergraph Utilities, commented, "Intergraph's commitment is to provide a solution for the entire utility workflow - building end-to-end connectivity into all the processes involved in distributing electricity and in maintaining transmission lines. The PREPA project is an exceptional example of Intergraph's geospatial resource management and dispatch solution, integrating every process into one comprehensive solution. We're excited to be selected as prime contractor for this system and look forward to working with PREPA toward their success."
Phases one and two of the contract, valued at $10.6 million, are set to begin concurrently during the first quarter of 1999. During an 18-month period, the Intergraph GIS and the Severn Trent Systems work management system will be implemented, workstations and servers will be delivered, and data will be converted for the city of Caguas pilot area. During phases three and four, set to begin in July of 2000, the outage management system will be installed and the data conversion effort will be completed. The total four-phase/four-year project awarded to Intergraph is valued at $26.4 million.
