Unisys Wins $45 Million Desktop Services Outsourcing Contract from UNUM Corp.
Desktop deployment, maintenance and end-user support pact covers over 8,500 users; provides Unum with single point of contact for project management and ongoing support
BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 1999-- Unisys Corp. Monday announced that it has been selected by UNUM Corp. [NYSE:UND - news], the world's leading provider of group disability insurance, to manage and support an enterprise-wide desktop standardization initiative.
This outsourcing engagement encompasses a broad range of distributed computing support services.
Under terms of the three-year, $45 million contract, Unisys will provide project management and desktop deployment services for UNUM's standardization initiative, and provide ongoing support for the new environment with services such as asset management, remote and on-site help desk services and on-site maintenance.
The new Windows NT-based environment and ongoing end-user support will afford UNUM greater organizational efficiencies and enhanced technical support.

The outsourcing agreement with UNUM calls for the deployment and support of 8,500 desktop systems and Windows NT servers in UNUM locations throughout the United States. According to UNUM's Partridge, Unisys geographic reach and ability to provide a single point of contact were key considerations in the selection.
Through Unisys OneCALL help desk support, Unisys will provide UNUM with a customized combination of on-site and remote help desk support through the Unisys Custom Call Center in Austin, Texas.
