You have to stop blaming God for the errors of us humans. Your aunt disowning her daughter is not God's choice but her mistake. If she understood God she would not react so harshly. I have noticed that often the ones who have no religious views do have more compassion than some christians. They at times get all mixed up in trying to do the "right thing". In that respect you would be a benefit to them when you convert to christianity by bringing some common sense with you. I was excommunicated from a church once. It was a joke and they later apologized and admitted they were wrong and went to extremes.

As far as cults go, a cult is a church or religious organization which preaches "a different Jesus" as defined by Paul the Apostle. A cult is defined differently by others but that is the Christian view. The Unitarian Church is a cult by Paul's standards and mine. That doesn't make those that attend bad people, just mistaken and deceived.
