Greg, That's true that all the good football players were involve in the war effort but I won't buy that the ones at Army and the Naval Academy were there to avoid the war.

Army beat ND in either 44 or 45 by 59 but a year after the war in 46 the Army-Notre game game ended in a tie. Remember Johnny Lujack?
