LSI Logic Announces Availability of Integrated Software Development
Environment for ARM7 Thumb and OakDSPCore Cores
PRNewswire - 09:18 a.m. Jan 11, 1999 Eastern

LONDON, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation,
the leader in system-on-a-chip design, today announced support
for its G11(TM) 0.18-micron (Leff) ARM(R)7Thumb and
OakDSPCore(R) processor cores under Allant Software
Corporation's ASPEX debug environment. This environment
makes debugging easy by providing a single user interface for
both cores. While traditional approaches offer completely
separate systems for both cores, or a single system with
multiple user interfaces, the Allant system provides a single
system with a single user interface thereby bringing greater
efficiencies in the development task and speeding time to market.

"The ASPEX solution directly addresses the needs of
system-on-a-chip designers, particularly in mobile
communications where use of the ARM7 Thumb and
OakDSPCore cores have become commonplace," noted Bob
Van Steenburgh, Director of Marketing, Processor Cores, LSI
Logic. "The ASPEX solution provides designers a complete
debugging environment allowing software simulation between
the ARM core and the OAK core prior to silicon and full debug
access to both cores inside a deeply embedded ASIC, all using a
single user interface significantly streamlining software
development."

The debug environment models core interfaces for simulation
and testing prior to hardware availability. "To date, there have
been individual debugger products in the market that support
either the ARM7 Thumb microprocessor or the OakDSPCore
processor, and these environments can work together.
However, the resulting integration often falls short of customer
expectations," says Daniel Jaskolski, President, Allant Software
Corporation. "LSI Logic and Allant have created a common
debug environment that provides a more efficient core migration
path to next generation technologies which reduces overall
development time. ASPEX is also inherently scalable, allowing
for easy adaptation to architectures modified for next generation
products."

To complement the ASPEX software simulation environment,
LSI Logic has developed prototyping evaluation boards for both
cores which have been designed to interface with one another to
create a complete ARM microprocessor and OakDSPCore
processor platform. ASPEX can both model this platform in
simulation and provide the emulation environment, allowing
rapid prototyping very early in the design cycle.

ASPEX is available for both Solaris 2.x and Windows 95, 98
and NT. It offers links into Matlab and other third party
algorithm development tools, as well as interfaces to version
control software.

About Allant Software Corporation

Allant Software Corporation was founded in 1996 to apply
advanced embedded microprocessor software development
tools and technology to the rapidly expanding market enabled
by embedded DSP technology in its many forms. Prior to
founding Allant, for more than a dozen years its co-founders
were key members of executive management and senior
technical staff at embedded development systems industry
leader Microtec(R) Research, Inc. At Microtec, they were
instrumental in developing and popularising Microtec's
XRAY(R) Debugger, widely regarded as the industry's de facto
standard debugger used by embedded microprocessor
designers. For further information, visit the Allant website at
