Zeev, There are technical reasons why cookies are necessary. The way the Internet is set up there needs to be some way to create a session. Cookies are 1 (very clean, at least from the website's viewpoint) technique technique for creating a session. If PROG is using this technique to create sessions, and it looks like they are, they cannot just get rid of cookies, it would derail their whole strategy. Hopefully not that many people dislike cookies.
