Paine Webber hosted a conference call on the PC sector last week. The analyst put together a very nice presentation. Bottom line is that CPQ is his favorite now. They are increasing market share in servers, storage, desktop, and notebooks. And the price difference between CPQ and DELL boxes has narrowed considerably. Official target is $62.50, but that could be revised much higher.

· The November sell-out data shows Compaq gaining back market share in the dealer channel and maintaining its retail share in the face of stiff low-end competition.
· In the dealer channel, Compaq's achieved near 40% market share in desktops for the first time in 18 months. In dealer notebooks, although Compaq didn't put a dent in the ThinkPad 600 market share, it was able to gain a couple share points from Toshiba.
· With the supply Xeon microprocessors catching up with demand, Compaq's PC server market share is also rising - approaching its 60-70% traditional level. Xeon servers made up 12% of dealer server shipments during November (according to Intellect ASW), almost all of which were Compaq products. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> |
