My guess is that Intel will succeed -- perhaps too well for consumers'
comfort in the long run. The increasingly high-wire economics of chip
making may well drive all of Intel's competitors out of big markets. If that
happens, we'll have to reevaluate our view, for Intel will then have more
power than is healthy for anyone but Intel's shareholders, and profits that
will have evolved into something no longer wholesome.

For now, awe -- not angst -- seems like an appropriate response to
Intel's success.
