First things first... check out their company description in press releases now- while they have not renamed the company with a .com, they are definitely changing their positioning... "Rational Software Corporation (NASDAQ: RATL) is the market leader in ensuring the success of customers who depend on their ability to develop and deploy software for technical, embedded, Web, e-commerce, and enterprise information systems." Web? E-commerce? I would like to see case studies on those babies. :^)

As for the company strategy, I am not unhappy if they stay the course, I just won't add significantly to my position.

BTW, I am familiar with Moore. However, my interpretation of a "gorilla" was a company who thoroughly controlled their market and used that position to offer new products and new services to their existing customer base, thus increasing their marketshare and revenues while keeping competitors at bay. Cost of entry is too high to jar the gorilla while cost of sales is low because of their established position with their customers. PLAT is using their position as a gorilla in data management to move into application development.

While I am oversimplifying Moore's theory, what I am looking for is what new products and services will be taken to their existing customer base.

Are you planning on coming state-side for SD West or the Rational Users Conference? We should organize a cocktail get-together at the Rational Users Conference if people are going to be attending.
