Hi Peppe,

I think you have GI at the wrong end of things. This agreement will integrate the GI DCT5000 set-top box with Cisco routers (GSR 12000's and uBR's) and AS5000 class access devices in an otherwise-traditional HFC architecture. This is part of enabling AT&T to use cable as a last-mile alternative to twisted pair, with GI's involvement (resulting from this agreement) only at the CPE. I haven't heard anything about requiring ATM as a transport protocol, although that would certainly be a possibility and, as you say, there is nothing preventing NN from supplying that equipment. I just don't see much ATM relevance to the announcement one way or the other.
