It is nice to see that GST $11.65 (new high)is starting to attract investor interest finally. I started a thread on them last month at $8.00 and discribed briefly what they were all about. However since my last comments there have been very positive things that have transpired. They announced a deal with INTERMEDIA (ICIX) this week which will be very important for them in the future. They also tied up a deal in New Mexico on a residential property for local phone access as well as internet connection to the properties. I would also like to mention 2 other very important things that happened this week that will perhaps help everyone understand the great potential for this company. First of all MFST announced a huge merger with UUNET. $2Billion. This is the joining of a local exchange carrier and an internet access provider. The reasons will become clear in the very near future why they did this deal.Savings will be enormous for both companies by joining forces. GST owns Hawaii Online and has opened an office in Japan to begin to supply various services there including internet access. GST major partner is TOMEN a large Japanese trading firm. You can see where my mind is starting to wonder.
The other event I would like to mention is the IPO today of Brooks Fibre Properties (BFPT)$30.12. This is a competitor to both ICIX and GST. The issue price of $27.00 a share is almost out of this world. They are, as of today trading at a market capitalization of over $800M. This compared to about $600M combined for GST and ICIX. Something doesn't make sense when you consider that Brooks has less revenues than both seperately. I would love to hear from anyone who can explain to me the reason for this incredible difference in valuations. The major investment firms behind these deals are Goldman Sachs for BFPT and Morgan Stanley for both GST and ICIX. The industry is flying nowadays and I think it will continue for some time to come. GST is extremely well positioned and I expect more positive news from them very soon. Get on board!
