BUT..How can you beat 6 GB removable for a hundred bucks?

you can from a price/performance perspective but you have to consider the downside risks...

1. Desktop Hard Drives are not designed to be removed and inserted repeatedly. This could result in worn out connectors and cracked solder joints.

2. Desktop Hard Drives are not very tolerant of jolts. The G forces associated with constant removal and insertion will most likely decrease the life of the drive. god only knows what would happen if you accidently dropped it on the floor.

If it weren't for these issues its a win win. But these issues bear serious consideration and probably the reason you don't see this implimented as a common practice.
