I guess this pretty much sums up my point. The general market isn't going to pay for ATHM service unless it's A) really cheap, or B) offers something you just HAVE to have to be considered a normal, modern person (we all know a person without a TV, a phone, and, now, also an email address just ain't normal). Again, what's going to drive broadband desire into the mass market? Assume easy-install ATHM is ready to go to anyone, starting tomorrow, at the current price. How many people would really sign up?

p.s i think the concurrent higher-level discussion of video/telephony on this thread is touching on what that killer app may be. Personally, I would be thrilled to use my computer as a videophone, or to watch live tv in conjunction with say, ESPN's sportszone. But I'm gathering from that discussion that we're still pretty far away from that. |
