Emile,
The Supreme Court is a group of men which interprets the constitution--they are not infallible, though they do the best they can. They are, as we all are, the product of their times, their upbringings, their cultures, their educations. Decisions are handed down and they are overturned; they reflect the politics and zeitgeist of the time. Justice Brewer was a Christian who believed strongly that religion and morality was essential to our nation's survival. He was, by all accounts, a good jurist.
However, if you so unquestioningly accept this majority opinion, then you must also accept the myriad majority decisions about religious freedoms and the division of church and state that have also been handed down. And what about the legality of abortion? Does your approval of Justice Brewer's opinion mean you accept the decisions regarding abortion with the same delight and zeal? Justice Brewer's opinion means no more and no less than any other. It is the court's interpretation and as such is subject to both the influence of the times and to the errors of man. Because you find it fits your personal belief structure lends it no more moral authority than any other opinion. if you accept one, you must accept them all on the same basis.
