Croc,

I'm sure the cows would rather be stalked by you & camera than by your namesake... I've had a bit of a problem with cameras myself, having killed 2 last year by salt water poisoning. A canoe is better for cameras than a kayak, as everything in a kayak gets wet, unless it's stashed out of reach. Been thinking of buying a Nikonos underwater thing, but they are heavy and a little clumsy for above-water use. A friend who paddles uses a Pentax point-and-shoot, which is only rated water resistant but he says he's immersed it repeatedly without trouble; I may try that instead. Any suggestions?

Paddling really is a wonderful way to sneak up on wildlife - we have a lot of kingfishers, herons, etc. here, especially this time of year, when they migrate down from the cold places. Very hard to see from land, but in the boat you become part of the landscape. Unless it's carbon/kevlar and you bump it on something.

Steve
