GNET Soars

by Greg Heberlein
Seattle Times staff reporter

Today's stratospheric rise in Seattle's Go2Net reflected the stock market's bifurcated nature: Bigger stocks struggled as smaller stocks - especially Internet-related - soared.

Go2Net was off the charts. The Web-site developer vaulted $53.938, or 82 percent, to $119.938. The stock has gained 211 percent in five sessions. An acclaimed acquisition of Web21, a strong endorsement by an influential Internet writer and a new "strong buy" recommendation by Pacific Crest Securities' Jeff Governman have been pluses the past week. In addition, Go2Net is a Net rarity - it makes money. Next week, it is expected to announce its second straight quarterly profit.
