Now why does stupid, non-inventive Intel come up with this great idea and AMD have to copy it from them ?

Intel's superior manufacturing technology allowed them to get a head start with backside/onboard L2. K7 is a more sophisticated design because it uses a large pipelined L1, which provides more bang for the transistor buck than L2 cache. If AMD can manufacture the K7, it will cause Intel a lot of grief.
