Create a new product that is less desirable then your old product so that you can be sure there is a demand for the product you aren't making anymore and are basically all sold out of.< I'll mostly defer to Norm on this rebuttal except this: At what point is it appropriate for computer maker to stop bundling/charging for older equipment when better technology is out there? 3 1/2" floppy drives were built into the first Mac in 1984. And Apple was criticized for not using 5 1/4 drive! How about a cassette drive? The truth is nobody's making floppy disks anymore because nobody's buying them. There will be enough early adopters to buy these things as is until the newer peripherals on the market. And BTW ... SCSI SUCKS! Yes, its fast, but it's way too finicky and the cables are expensive. *This is the metaphor I would use to explain to novice users to make sure they understood to plug in and turn on their SCSI devices before booting their systems so they wouldn't crash or damage their CPUs. Watching Jobs hot-plug that FireWire camera over and over had me rolling on the floor.
