Tamson,

You are correct about credit card and other financial activities, in fact here is an excerpt of an article from an on-line data processing journal [D S * ( dsstar ) The On-Line Executive Journal for Data-Intensive Decision Support, January 12, 1999: Vol. 3, No. 2]:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ ] 100512) First Data teams with
Lucent Technologies' Visual Insights Software.................5K

Lucent Technologies and First Data Corporation (FDC) have announced an
agreement for FDC to use Visual Insights data visualization software to
help clients better use their bankcard data.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of my recurring thoughts has been very large (and mostly financial data bases) maintained in FDDI based data warehouses. Some large telephone companies do this. They need FC. There are also large volumes of small messages (critical e-mail) that needs back up and routing. The IBM GS project was a case in point. You can scan the web pages of several FC companies and find financial and business services projects.

The bank financial data is very large, but many of them are focused on Y2K. I think they are mandated by the feds to get that taken care of by a specific date.

Now if Lucent would just start looking at the right FC hardware......
