FORE?

On the surface, it makes sense... but...

I'm a Certified Fore Engineer (for whatever that's worth... it means I spent two weeks in Pittsburgh getting training and passing tests) and their products are great LAN devices, but, at the time of my training, none of the products appeared to be carrier class -like Cascade or Stratacom. Now, this was almost two years ago, and I have not kept up to date with their products.

At the time, FORE offered a good ATM switch, for ATM to the desktop - or among servers - as you would use a Gigabit Ethernet Switch today. Remember, 2 years ago, there were no GE switches; now everyone has one.

Perhaps the product line has grown significantly.... the products that I was trained on (200 series and 1000 series) were very nice indeed, and they "best in class" for what they did. Fore also made a variety of edge connected devices to allow ATM uplinks for Non-ATM LAN environments. I'll check out their web site, examine current product offerings, and get back to you.
