Dr.John,

Thanks for starting this thread on SI. I'm certainly not going to be able to give insight into the science, but my interest in Techne can be explained as follows.

First, I heard of this company following a recommendation of a competitor BIOI in a post by Joe Dancy from the Lone Star Growth Investor.

After looking, I decided I like the prospects of the business but decided that Techne would be my investment instead of BIOI should I invest here.

Secondly, TECH kept popping up in my "Buffettology" type stock screens that try to capture companies with growing book value, consistent and above average ROE, positive free cashflow, and expected ROI of over 15%.

Of course, the quantitative factors do not in and of themselves make a good stock, but looking into Techne helped convince me this is a stock to watch. (I actually placed a buy limit around 18 before the stock bounced to 21 and has so far stayed there.) Your lead-in analogy "selling picks to gold miners" aptly captures why I'm interested in this company.

The recent addition of Genzyme division only helps solidify their position in this long term growth area.

Thanks for starting this thread Dr. John. Hopefully it will lure some others for comment.

Shane
