Pruguy, imo, Compaq bought shopping.com in order to further their *real* goal, which is to (imo) rule the world. But they're slick, see, because they're not going to do it by brute force. You go out and buy a site that got 1/3 of the web hits in December and walla, you got the people coming to you. Lemmings walking right into Compaq's hungry maw. Now, what's next? I'd say go buy Compuserve, become an internet service provider, undercut AOL, incorporate alta vista and shopping.com into it, and now it's a complete turnkey operation. One day the entire world will be connected to the Web and Compaq will be a one stop place to get it all, computers, internet dial up connection, and now that I think of it, I think that Compaq should buy Digicash also, because there's money to be made there too.
