Marden - I agree that Nortel/Bay does not compete with either Ascend or Cisco in core switches. However, Lucent is way behind both Cisco and Nortel in data networking and acquisition of Ascend helps them close the gap. Acquisition of Ascend gives Lucent additional presence with ISPs but does not help them in the enterprise sector where Cisco and Nortel compete. Right now, Nortel is ahead in voice/data convergence and acquistion of Ascend helps Lucent catch up. Cisco is significantly behind in voice/data convergence. All of this just my opinion but this is how I see it. I am pleased with the Ascend acquisition even though I own no stock in either company. Regards, Ken
