BRUSSELS, Jan 12 (Reuters) - The two co-founders and co-chairmen of Belgian speech technology company Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products (Nasdaq:LHSPF - news) on Tuesday said they had started a new investment company focused on information technology companies.

The new firm, L&H Investment Co (LHIC), would operate separately from Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products, Jo Lernout and Pol Hauspie said in a statement.

Lernout and Hauspie are the major investors in LHIC and, as part of the start-up, are placing just over half of their 20 percent personal holding in Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products in LHIC, the statement said.

LHIC has completed an investment in Applied Voice Recognition Inc (OTC BB:AVRI - news), a Texas-based developer and marketer of voice-recognition solutions for the health care information technology industry. LHIC has also invested in four private companies.

LHIC said it expects most of its investments to be in the range of 15 percent-plus stakes.
