Dataquest further states that the cable modem market is growing quickly and they expect total 1998 worldwide shipments to be approximately 500,000 units. In its December, 1998 Dataquest's ''Cable Modem Market Share and Forecast, First Half 1998'' report, Dataquest ranks Motorola, Nortel, Com21, 3Com and General Instruments as the top five leaders in 1H'98 market share shipments. The growth in Com21's worldwide market position follows on the heels of a November announcement that Com21 is now Europe's leading provider of cable modem technology, according to Ryan Hankin Kent Inc., another industry market research group, based in South San Francisco, Calif.
''We are pleased to be chosen as one of the leading suppliers of cable modems worldwide, particularly because this market is experiencing growth rates in excess of 100 percent per year,'' said Pete Fenner, president and CEO of Com21.
''Com21 is well positioned going into 1999, when the cable modem market is really expected to take off. We are determined to continue to drive this market in North America, Europe and around the world, with the most tested and advanced technology of any of the leading cable modem systems manufacturers.''
