Swedish Software Companies Targets After Foreign Companies Slump

Swedish software companies are acquisition candidates because foreign rivals lost as much as three quarters of their value within a year and they won't reach profitability goals, said FinansTidningen, citing Bengt Kallenberg, Sweden's head of marketing at German SAP AG, the No. 1 business management software maker. ''Some of the bigger Swedish companies are potential buyout candidates for the large international suppliers,'' Kallenberg said, adding that the large resources needed to develop and sell programs will cause smaller Swedish companies to succumb. SAP is unlikely to buy Swedish rivals, while JP Edwards & Co. and PeopleSoft Inc., both of the U.S., will probably acquire a Scandinavian company, Kallenberg said. (FinansTidningen; www.fti.se)
