I am an inpatient person (believe me I pay for this trait, but it is me). Others are long term players, good researchers, good people people, etc. The blending and sharing of these great traits is what makes SI a good source of information and sounding stage for ideas.
I think we are in-line for a build-up of take-over premium similar to ASND's, if a deal is announced. Pat seems to believe it won't be. I haven't a clue, but there are a lot of reporters who will have egg on their faces if there is no deal.
If you want my opinion, a deal was actually stuck about 15 months ago (loosely in share exchange rates) between these two companies and they are just now getting their respective share prices in line to where both parties can be at peace with the deal.
LU needed their stock certificate currency to raise and so did Mory at el. Now they are there. There are LU chips in the ASND's ATM machines - that is straight from someone at ASND about a year ago at one of the investment conferences. They have danced together for a long time, which is why the rumor kept surfacing. Now let's get them a room and move back to the market. They might even get themselves into a John Chambers bashing mode like ASND and Cascade got from Chamber's when that deal was done.
What is being pointed out here is that NN may very well have exceeded ASND's product strenghts during this illegeled committment period. LU knows that is a good question. Pat might get the last laugh in that a possible outcome is that ASND does not like to offer and declines to get married by saying "I don't" and then LU is released from their unofficial deal to seek NN.
I think the rumor of NN and LU doing some type of alliance was LU kicking the tires (on NN) to make sure that they really wanted to marry ASND. A sort of last date. What if NN proved to be better and they throw the deal because they found their real love. I still think ASND gets taken by LU, but there could be some buyer remorse in that NN may very well be the better player.
After having lived with ASND for a long time and researched it to my limited ability, I truly believe NN has the better technology. ASND's stated position was that cable modems would not be a factor in this market. Seems that it will be. The US Department of Defense choose NN. The good research written by others points out many other areas of NN's strenghts.
Life is full of choices. The market will let us know what they think. I like seeing one trade where $1,700,000 USD's go into the stock I hold - NN - (see my prior post).
