Dennis,

As someone who currently has no positions in either ASND or NN, allow me add to this discussion.

A company is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. There are three main players in N.A. in the networking arena: LU, NT and CSCO.

Both CSCO and NT already have ATM technology. With LU "marrying" ASND, to coin your phrase, NN may be left on the dance floor, with less attractive suitors (ie, less money).

There is no question that LU paying $ 18 Billion for ASND is absurd. But because LU is willing to do this does not guarentee that NN will get this amount from a Siemans or Alcatel. LU has a market cap of $ 170 Billion and therefore can afford such a ludicrous pay-out. They also have the benefit of accounting practises that allow them to do these deals.

There are only so many networking gorilas with huge market caps. It looks like NN is left with the chimps to partner with... not that there's anything wrong with that...

Cheers,

Peppe
