Internet access from your car...

My feeling is that this is still at least 7-10 years away. I am speaking of fully integrated access, where your car does not just have access, rather, the net... or future versions of the net.. are integral in the performance and functioning of your car.

Who will provide the service? GM may provide their own service Chrysler, Ford and Imports will almost certainly outsource their access.

GM has some of the preliminary experience in this area with its ONSTAR program. If you have ONSTAR installed in your vehicle, you are connected via cell phone to the ONSTAR center. If your vehicle is stolen, ONSTAR tracks it via GPS. If you airbags go off, ONSTAR will try to contact the vehicle, if they cannot... they send the police to your exact location. ONSTAR will also reserve hotel rooms, restaurants, etc. They also provide location on request and directions.

Internet access from your car will have 2 parts... connection and service (although they may be integrated). ONSTAR is 29.95/mth, plus regular cell phone charges.

So, to try and tie this in to @HOME somehow... perhaps one day you will connect to @HOME via wireless technology, to learn road reports, directions, etc... or maybe even to take a nap while @HOME drives your car???
:-)

Regards.. Jay
