I suppose you realize why the RBOCs are trying to go this way? It seems that after years of requests and years of turndowns PacBell has given up trying to get ISDN
rate hikes - all they wanted was to get them to a point where it was profitable.
(of course after they had signed up and hooked a good many users)

Now if they think they are going to be able to effectively pump that xDSL all around the place, I think they again have reality to face.

There are a lot of very valid reasons for not expecting economical, widespread digital
lines anytime soon, regardless of all these trials they have been doing. If I recall, I read
that almost every ADSL trial was done with totally new copper, as the old just
wouldn't support it reliably. Here are just a few articles regarding this and many other matters on xDSL and ISDN:

Let's face reality here - 56K is the next step on the ladder, perhaps only an interim but it appears that it may be around for a while, whether X2 or K56 or X56 or K2 or ??
