AMGN weighs in:

Headline: Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) says would consider acquisitions

======================================================================
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 11 (Reuters) - Amgen Corp. President
Kevin Sharer said Tuesday the biotech giant would consider
acquiring another drug company to bolster its product pipeline.
Speaking at the Hambrecht and Quist biotech investor
conference here, Sharer said Amgen remains cautious about
acquisitions and is not pinning all its growth prospects on
such a move.
"We're not going to bet Amgen on an acquisition. We're not
going to buy someone much bigger than Amgen, but we would not
shy away from the right opportunity," he told the conference.
Amgen has two billion-dollar drugs but has yet to find a
third product to equal its blockbusters Epogen and Neupogen.
The company has long been considered an acquisition target
although Amgen has repeatedly stated it wishes to remain
independent.
