Linkon Demo's LinkNet IP Telephony
Gateway Switch on New Sun Carrier Grade Platform

Fault Tolerant NEBS Compliant Sun Netra FT 1800 Paired with LinkNet
Gateway Switch Running on Solaris Operating Environment Targeted at
Telco Central Office

NEW YORK, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Linkon Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: LKON - news)
today conducted a live demonstration of an innovative carrier grade Internet Protocol Telephony
architecture powered by the new Sun Netra™ FT 1800 server at Sun's ''The New Age in
Telecommunications'' conference. The voice and fax over Internet Protocol (IP) demonstration
featured the fault tolerance, NEBS compliance and high availability of the new Sun Netra FT 1800
and the compression and SS7 call control of Linkon Corporation's LinkNet™ IP Telephony
Gateway Switch.

''The build-out of converged voice and data networks running IP is happening much faster than
anyone could have expected. We see significant opportunity for our Sun Netra Server line to
provide a full range of capability from the largest global carrier central office to the customer premise
equipment needs of a small ISP. Sun is happy to partner with Independent Software Vendors (ISV)
like Linkon Corporation who provide the necessary middleware to create these end-user solutions,''
said Daniella Russo, director of marketing for Sun Network Systems.

''Sun is truly becoming a leader in the New Age in Telecommunications. Over the last several years,
Sun has expanded both their presence and understanding of the telco space. Combined with their
leadership position in data networking and the Internet, they provide all the tools an enhanced
services company might need,'' added Lee W. Hill, President and CEO, Linkon.

Features of the LinkNet IP Telephony Gateway demonstrated include: integrated IP voice and fax
communications, IP switching, consolidated logging and reporting functions, SS7 (Signaling System
7) protocol support, telco-grade hardware-based echo-cancellation, robust ''QoS'' (Quality of
Service) and network management feature-set, and enhanced services support for interactive voice
response and speech recognition.

Sun's Netra FT 1800 server is built on dual four-processor UltraSparc chip sets and leverages the
technology used in the popular Sun Enterprise 450 server. The system provides a 300MHz CPU
and 4 gigabytes (GB) of memory, as well as a NEBS-certified rack mount package, enabling
telecom carriers to enclose the system in multiple racks from a variety of providers. The Netra FT
1800 features front loading components to ease system maintenance, and provides 16 PCI and 12
SCSI slots, as well as four CID and DAT slots. The Netra FT 1800 augments Sun's previously
announced Netra t line of NEBS Level 3-certified simplex servers for Network Equipment
Providers and Network Service Providers.

The demo network topology consisted of the gateways connected via two Netra Servers and two
SunSwitch™ Gigabit Ethernet Switch with a live Internet connection on the datacom side, and
connections to a Panasonic telephone switch supporting a variety of new ''webphones'' from
Alcatel, Nortel and Toshiba on the telecom side. Voice over IP phone calls were demonstrated from
a phone booth to a phone booth over the intranet, from a phone to a phone over the public Internet
and from a phone to any other PSTN phone over Linkon Corporation's IP Gateway network. In
addition, there was a real-time IP fax demonstration, with call progress, network management, and
integrated interactive voice response functionality.

Linkon Corporation's LinkNet IP Telephony Gateway was recently selected as a ''Product of the
Year'' for 1998 by Internet Telephony magazine. The Solaris™ operating environment provides the reliability and high level of performance that has
made the UNIX operating system the OS of choice for the global telecom infrastructure. Linkon
Corporation's technology offers excellent modularity, portability and scalability, while Sun's
computing platforms provide superb performance, reliability and network management.

At present, the LinkNet Gateway can support from four analog channels to multiple El/TI digital
circuits. Current users have deployed systems for phone-to-phone communications over satellite
networks; for prepaid calling card services; for SS7 network protocol-based applications; in ''Thin
Client'' Call Center applications using Java™ technology; and in Intranet and Internet-based
configurations both domestically and internationally. The LinkNet technology has been designed to
address IP telephony's most difficult technical issues, including full duplex communications,
scalability, echo cancellation, efficient audio compression, and low latency.
