"Loafing idly"
OH---I begin to understand---
this is a category in and of itself? I think Ammo and Dan are experts. CW and I can't do it. We do formal, organized loafing, idle loafing? Not a chance.
We had a Saturday without swim meets, without ball games, without Anything- "We have a day to just loaf!" I said. Dan groaned.
"I'll make a list!" I said.
CW said, "OK-but I'm going to run a 5K early-"
"All right-I won't start you until 9 or 10. I'll get on line at 6 and write"
"Well, after the run, I'm going to go to James' house to work on our web site. I can't be here til noon or so."
I had the paper and pen out- "OK!! Let's see!! We can sleep late!!! Dan, what time do you want me to wake you up?"
"I don't want you to wake me up."
"Well, that's silly! You'll waste the whole day!"
"That's the point, penni. Don't wake me up!"
I am miffed. How can you loaf if you're asleep? "Well, when are you going to loaf?"
Dan closes his eyes. "How about all afternoon? I'll loaf in the afternoon."
"Great!" I start writing. "Let's clean out the attic."
"No." Dan opens his eyes. "I want to watch football. I want to drink beer. I want to eat chips and burp and scratch myself in the recliner."
"THat's not loafing. That's wasting time! That's decadence!" I turn to Ammo. "You and I can work on the last page of the Moonlight Sonata."
"I thought I'd just sleep and then maybe call Brian and go to the movies."
"Well--but- that's a waste of time!"
They don't bother to answer me.
I make my lists-although after all these years you'd think I'd figure out that my lists are an exercise in futility. BUt-hey-it's the way I loaf. |
