Wasn't MOT one of the companies that originally had agreements to make AAPL clones?
If so (and I am sure they were), here is an interesting story. My brother in law was hired by MOT to sell the clones. They developed a hell of a plan...things looked good.
Then Jobs took over. Next thing you know, MOT gets a visit from AAPL lawyers telling them to stop making the machines. MOT asks "why, we have an agreement?" AAPL says "no you don't. Nobody from AAPL signed it." Sure enough, AAPL had agreed to let them make and market the machines, but had sneakily avoided signing the paper (MOT's own fault for not checking). My in law was out on his butt pretty quickly, as there was no longer a need for a sales force.
Perhaps AAPL is making up for it.
It was a funny story a few years ago. Even he laughed about the corporate ineptitude in such a well respected company (MOT, that is).
Still, he told me at that point to keep an eye on AAPL. Glad I did.
