O K guys, I think I figured it out. IMHO this is the game plan and it is really rather simple on the surface. Alta Vista is already on of the larger portals and has a bit of name recognition for the public. Compaq is the number one pc manufacturer in the world. It is not hard for them to have AV as the default home page on their internet button. Over time, as they sell more machines with the internet button more and more people inadvertantly end up at compaq's default home page.. Their objective is to create another yahoo, and the first step in that direction is to have lots of shopping. This is only the beginning of a number of 100m on up to form ventures for this sight. they want to replace yahoo as the destination on the internet Bottom line in my opinion, is the strategy is to create another yahoo, not a shopping channel. This is just a building block to allure a lot of other companies to form alliances with the default destination on compaqs pc's I'd love to hear what you all think about my theory.maybe I am right and maybe I'm not. I'm intersted to know if anyone has a more clear guess than I do.
