Your assumption regarding future competition may be valid, but the "pie" is growing exponentially. I feel major players will prevail, and minor players will continue to lose market share. As Ascend has a jump on both the ISP market of embedded customer base, and the IP Switching market technically through acquisition (including their engineers), and they are already selling to the same target market where the biggest boom is, relationships have value in sales situations. Bay lost >25% market share last year as a major router player. USRobotics even with total control does not equal the technical position of Ascend or Cisco. Even 3COM comes from the bottom up in switching and lost market share last quarter to Cisco. Are you seeing gloom and doom, as opposed to more players who will try to appear where there are currently only a few, some with a head start in a market that is growing exponentially?
