Beyond.com Signs Agreement with
Novadigm to Deliver Software Update
Service over the Internet

New Partnership Promises Subscription Service to Millions of Customers for
Self-Managing Software On the Desktop

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1999-- Beyond.com™ (Nasdaq:BYND -
news) today announced it has signed an agreement with Novadigm®, Inc. (Nasdaq:NVDM - news)
by which Beyond.com will use Novadigm's Radia™ technology to offer an Internet-based software
update service for its enterprise and consumer customers. Initially, this subscription service will be
targeted to meet the needs of millions of small- and medium-sized companies that want to reduce the
complexity and administrative burden of keeping their software current. Customers purchasing from
Beyond.com's selection of 5,600 electronically downloadable software titles will have an opportunity
to subscribe to a Radia-based service that will automatically deliver the latest updates and
enhancements.

''Small- and medium-sized businesses want to be sure they have the most current updates for the
software they've licensed, '' said Alan DeClerck, vice-president of worldwide sales for Beyond.com.
''Subscribers to our service won't need administrators to surf Web sites looking for updates and
fixes. With a Radia-based subscription, our customers can instead focus on running their
businesses.''

Beyond.com's new service will combine the ubiquity of the Web with Radia's web-based software
management, enabling a Beyond.com subscriber to get desktop software that is self-configured,
self-installed and self-updated, all via the Internet. The combination of Beyond.com and Novadigm
enables a complete Internet software delivery chain, linking customers with software publishers. The
new service takes advantage of Novadigm's patented desired-state technology, already proven in
Fortune 1000 corporations around the globe.

''Beyond.com and Novadigm are working together to automate the delivery and management of
desktop software for millions of potential subscribers,'' said George Kellar, vice-president of
marketing for Novadigm. ''Novadigm products today are in production at large enterprise sites
managing hundreds of thousands of software components on customer desktops with 99.4 percent
reliability, significantly reducing desktop administration costs. With Beyond.com, we'll be leveraging
these same enterprise capabilities for small- and medium-sized companies. We're excited to team
with Beyond.com as a way to extend the use of our technology to more customers across the
Internet.''

The number of Internet-enabled, small- to medium-sized (or ''middle market'') businesses -- that is,
companies with fewer than 1,000 employees -- is expected to approach 4.3 million by 2001,
according to analyst firm International Data Corporation (IDC).

''Beyond.com is pleased to have Novadigm's best-of-breed technology as the foundation for this
innovative service,'' DeClerck said. ''We believe this is a unique opportunity to bring Novadigm's
market leadership in enterprise software management to millions of businesses on the Internet.''
